In Charlotte, the Patel’s hope to convey a sense of innovative charm to guests checking in at the Refuge Hotel on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood. The five-room boutique hotel provides visitors with unique décor and perspectives in each suite, which are intriguingly named “The Residential Suite,” “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore,” “Take a Trip,” “Proper Room for Four,” and the “Pack. And Play.” Each suite features generous amounts of light-filled space and sleeps from 2 to 4 people, so those on a budget can enjoy an affordable but luxurious stay in the heart of Charlotte.

Owners, Jay, Anup and Nimisha Patel, have enlisted the mixology talents of “The Royal Tot” to manage an onsite bar that changes themes seasonally, open Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 5 pm to 11 pm. “Rumaway Cove” was their pop-up holiday bar specializing in, of course, in rum-based cocktails! A new theme will launch in the spring, but in the meantime, the bar at Refuge embodies a neighborhood cocktail bar, anchored on the classics with a few expertly crafted recipes to bring some unexpected flavors.
