Southern Strain Brewing Coming Soon To Charlotte

Southern Strain Brewing is opening a second location, expanding its popular establishment beyond historic downtown Concord to Charlotte later this year. Southern Strain’s newest outpost is an ideal spot for their brand of small-batch brews and rustic touches. Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood on Central Avenue fits the bill with the brick, wood, and metal railings at the sight. The industrial, bluegrass feel of Southern Strain Brewing will continue throughout the interior, where owner Jake Allen is installing a concrete block bar, blue glass and artwork designed by the Southern Tiger Collective, a group he’s collaborated with before in Concord. Southern Tiger’s artwork vibrates with street cred in bold silhouettes that include its signature tiger motif or other pop culture icons. Think Japanese wood block print meets beer label aesthetic.

Allen’s favorite food truck chefs are following his Charlotte venture as well. As in Concord, Southern Strain won’t feature a kitchen or a dedicated food menu but will, however, provide craft lovers with the Tijuana mac and cheese and BBQ of “Hot Box Next Level Kitchen” by Michael Bowling. Hot Box describes its plates as “next level street food,” and its pans of beef burger sliders, hot chicken wings and hand-sliced fries are worth making a trip. Oh, did we mention? Southern Strain Brewing will showcase between 15-20 taps of beer brewed at its Concord location for no shortage of choice when it comes to local IPA’s, ciders, Stouts and Ambers.
